Western Mass. Lean Network

July 15, 2010

Bemis Corp. in Shirley MA

Another well attended and valuable “go see” meeting.  The “pull/flow” subject was embellished by a discussion of issues created by Demand outpacing Supply.  Rapid gains or losses of business puts incredible stress on any organization.  A broad and deep foundation of lean, at all levels of the company is critical to managing this chaos.

Attending companies included:

Unistress

Mass Dept of Transportation

Madico

Deluxe

Coherent

Tidland Corp

EIS Wire and Cable

Precision Autocraft

As we are all involved with continuous improvement at our companies, our network is obligated to do the same.  I have had some suggestions that make good sense to me:

1.  Have the hosts spend less time on what they make or do and more time on how they are using lean tools.

2.  Hold events focused on administrative kaizen

What are your thoughts?

Do you have other suggestions for improvement?

Dwight, It is great that you are using this site to capture past events as well as feedback.

I think there has been great value in getting to know local practicitioners, sharing ideas, and learning about lean activities in other industries. I get a sense it is time to improve the value of our relationships.

I think people may naturally want to move from seeing to doing. That makes sense but maybe hard to do in our format.

I think expanding the networking or looking to increase number of participants is helpful – generates new ideas. Also, we have focused on manufacturing and there is much we can learn from service industries.

I have been happy with the format so far. I have learned something new from every visit. I am supportive of continuing to grow our relationships.
